Why do some reports not add up?

Question: Why do the numbers not add up when two individual reports are run for two days in a row and then a report is run for the two days together?

Answer: When we calculate data in Analytics4WiFi, some of the fields are based on unique devices seen. As such, the time period selected will have an impact on the unique devices.

Here’s an example:

Let’s say you run the Presence Insight for the period of ‘yesterday’ and the data displayed shows “5 Devices Seen”. Let’s assume these devices are:

  1. Device A
  2. Device B
  3. Device C
  4. Device D
  5. Device E

Next, if you run the Presence Insight for the time period of ‘Today’ and the data displayed shows “5 Devices Seen”. Let’s assume these devices are:

  1. Device A
  2. Device C
  3. Device X
  4. Device Y
  5. Device Z

Last, if you run the Presence Insight for both days, the data displayed will show “8 Devices Seen”, not “10 Devices Seen”. This is because ‘Device A’ & ‘Device C’ were seen on both days, but when you request Presence data for both days, they are only counted once.

  1. Device A
  2. Device B
  3. Device C
  4. Device D
  5. Device E
  6. Device X
  7. Device Y
  8. Device Z
